Piekarska Street is one of the main streets in the
downtown district of Bytom. It once was the main trade
route towards Piekary Śląskie. In the second half of the
nineteenth century, a cemetery known as "Mater
Dolorosa” and a Jewish graveyard were established
along the suburban sections of the street. Grand
townhouses, the building of the Main Post Office and
the Church of the Holy Trinity were erected closer to the
city center. In 1913, the first streetcar line was launched
along Piekarska Street, which is still in service today.
