The Bachelor's Little Palace in Świerklaniec

The Bachelor's Little Palace (also known as the Bachelor’s House) is one of the buildings, which had been erected in Świerklaniec by the powerful Henckel von Donnersmarck family. Unfortunately, it was not so lucky as the main palace, called "Little Versailles". The neoBaroque Bachelor’s House was at the beginning of the twentieth century. On the façade of the building there is the Latin inscriptions, explaining the reasons for its construction: “Memento vivere - Remember to life!” Today, it houses a hotel and a restaurant.

Świerklaniec Park is one of the pearls, which was passed to posterity by the Henckel von Donnersmarck family. The park was once a beautiful area surrounding the existing palace, called "Little Versailles" (burned in 1945). The 154-hectare park was established in the English style. One can enjoy more than century-old oaks, chestnuts, maples and yews, and numerous ponds are a haven for anglers. Art lovers can admire original sculptures by French artist, Emmanuel Fremiet.
For about 300 years, Świerklaniec was the seat of the Protestant line of one of the grandest families in Silesia- Counts of Henckel von Donnersmarck. In the second half of the nineteenth century, their seat became a magnificent palace called the "Little Versailles", which was destroyed after WW2. Today, in the Park of Świerklaniec, a neo-Gothic church and an adjacent ancestral mausoleum have been preserved. Count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck, one of the last owners of the estate, was, inter alia, buried here.
The first palace in Nakło Śląskie not far from Tarnowskie Góry was built by Hugo von Donnersmarck of the Bytom-Siemianowice lineage of this wealthy, Catholic family in 1856. The form of the present-day neo-Gothic residence results from the renovation carried out by Lazarus IV von Donnermarck in 1890s. The palace houses the Centrum Kultury Śląskiej (Silesian Culture Center) which presents the historical exhibition. The park with surrounding outbuildings is also worth seeing.
Nakło Śląskie
Apart from the summer palace of the Donnersmarcks of the Nakło and Siemianowice line, we can find an interesting church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the adjacent mausoleum of the Donnersmarck family. They also founded here a nursing home run by the Sisters of Mercy of St Borromeo. The church is a unique, brick building, built in the late nineteenth century in the neo-Romanesque style with some Byzantine elements.
The Bunker No. 52 of the Fortified Area of "Silesia " in a Dobieszowiceach is a perfectly preserved part of the Polish line of fortifications, which was built in the interwar period along the Polish-German border in order to protect Silesia, the most industrialized region of Poland. The Association for Fortification Monuments "Pro Fortalicium” renovated the bunker and created a museum chamber, in which we can learn about the living conditions of the soldiers, as well as about their weapons, and many other curiosities.
