The shelters of the "Godula" point of defense were built in 1937-38. The plans to build fortifications in the region were prepared by the Poles in 1935, shortly after Hitler came to power in Germany. The purpose of the fortifications located in vicinity of Godula (today's Ruda Śląska) was to secure the road leading from the side of nearby Bytom, where the German attack was expected.
