The church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist in Ruda Śląska-Godula is a nineteenthcentury neo-Gothic building, typical for the religious architecture of the industrial cities of Upper Silesia. The shrine was built in the years 1867-1871 as the first church in the growing workers’ settlement founded at the zinc smelter plant "Godula". The main founders of the church were Joanna and Jan Schaffgotsch, the married couple, who owned the plant.
