The building of the former Directorate of the
Donnersmarcks' Mines and Steelworks in
Świętochłowice dates back to the second half
of the nineteenth century. It is one of the
memorabilia left after the powerful and
influential family, which at one time had a
whole network of mines, steel mills and
demesnes in Silesia. This family came from
Spiski Czwartek, a small village, located in
the Slovak part of Spiš (the German name of
the village is Donnersmarck).
