The origins of the institutions of labor inspection in the Prussian state are connected with the development of nineteenth-century capitalism. Their aim was, among others, to prevent accidents and to control juvenile work. After the unification of Germany, the Royal Industrial Inspection (Gewerbeinspektion) was formally established. In 1892, a building was erected in Chorzów, which housed the Royal Mining Inspectorate (Kӧnigliche Berginspektion).
