The Cukerman’s Gate is a building, which once housed a private Jewish House of Prayer. For centuries, Będzin was one of the biggest centers of the Jewish population in the Upper Silesian Industrial Region. Before the Second World War, the Jewish commune numbered 27396 people. That was more than half the population of the town. Therefore, at some point the existing Będzin synagogue on Castle Hill was too small. As a result, private houses of prayer were founded, among others, the one in the Cukerman’s Gate.
