One of the interesting workers’ living complexes in Sosnowiec is a housing estate of the Warsaw Society of Coal Mines and Metallurgical Plants, situated in the district of Ostrowy Górnicze. The development of this settlement, originally called the Niemce, was associated with an accidental discovery of coal deposits in 1814. The society took over the local mining in 1874, and soon, with the development of the settlement, a housing estate was founded.
