The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the most distinctive buildings in Sosnowiec. The shrine was erected in the years 1893-1901, that is, just before the granting of city rights to Sosnowiec. The monumental, neo-Romanesque building was designed by Karol Kozłowski. The interior was decorated with magnificent religious and historical murals by Włodzimierz Tetmajer and Henryk Uziembło. Along with the church a stylish rectory was built.
