On the western outskirts of Racibórz, on a slope rising opposite the Baroque Church of Our Lady, there is a small, wooden building. Its history is associated with German and Polish scientific research. The villa was built in the 1920s. It was then equipped with measuring devices. It served as a seismology observatory. This institution was launched by Carl Mainka, a Silesian scientist. Today, it houses a seismic station of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
