Tourist Information Point in Jaworzno

   Public Library in Jaworzno, undertook the task of running the Tourist Information Point, within the framework of the Silesian Tourist Organisation structures, in order to bring the rich history of our city, to instill an awareness of the attractiveness of Jaworzno and arouse the curiosity to explore the immediate surrounding.
    Advantageous location of the city, on the border between Upper Silesia and Lesser Poland, between Katowice and Kraków, allows active spending of free time in a very diversified way. Setting off from Jaworzno, in a short time we get to Kraków, Wieliczka, Oświęcim (Auschwitz), Bielsko-Biała, Cieszyn, Pszczyna or on the Industrial Monuments Route. Wrocław is also tempting fast access. For lovers of the mountains, the Tatras and Beskidy Mountains are open!
   We are convinced that Jaworzno does not differ from its famous neighbors. Tourist attractions in the city, such as GEOsfera, The Sosina reservoir, trail of monuments, expanded bike routes, diving center "Orka", base of sport centers, allows pleasant and active holiday. For culture lovers, the city offers a number of events: concerts (Festival of Energy, Days of Jaworzno), exhibitions and meetings with authors. Range of the proposal allows everyone to find something for oneself.
    Hoping for a common journey, trails of our city and its surrounding areas, we will gladly share with you collected by us information and titbits of news. We will offer our help, tips and hints where to go, how to spend free time, what to see.

   By the way we would like to encourage you to use the services of the Public Library in Jaworzno, the building which Tourist Information Point is located. "Library in the market," as it is called by citizens, is the heiress of a post-war tradition of librarianship, which dates back to 1945. Since 1949, thus more than sixty five years, almost every day, opens its doors, inviting all lovers of reading to use the library holdings and services. In accordance with contemporary trends, we are systematically expanding the offer, using new technology and communication tools. We try to show the Library as an attractive place of acquiring knowledge, information, also as a science center and place of creative work. Our activity is conducive to infrastructure of the Main Library - one of the most modern buildings of this type in Poland (opened in 2007). The Library, in terms of the range and availability of services, meets the standards of IFLA (International Federations of Library Associations and Institutions). In the building you will find: loan desk (with open stacks), four reading rooms: general, periodical, multimedia and regional, a branch for children and youth (with seating for reading and doing homework and a separate room for teamwork), as well as two meeting rooms with projection screens. Readers are also at the disposal of the help desk, with library catalogues and computers, a multi-purpose hall (with audiovisual equipment), which hosts, inter alia literary meetings, exhibition gallery and a café.
    We particularly wish to recommend Regional Archives, which provides documents of social life and publications on topics related to Jaworzno and surrounding areas. In addition, it prepares regional bibliography, digitize the collections in collaboration with the Silesian Digital Library. The collections are catalogued by the library system SOWA2 and information about them pass through a website in the form of electronic records. In the reading room there is also a collection of early books, including copies from the 19th and early 20th century. The Reading room also offers interlibrary loan, creates subject bibliography and teach library lessons, including the use of multimedia presentations.
