The Coal Mine "Wieczorek" in Nikiszowiec, a district of Katowice is one of the longest operating mine in Upper Silesia. Coal mining in Janów began in the late eighteenth century. The origins of the mine "Wieczorek" date back to the first decades of the nineteenth century. For a long time, the mine operated under the name "Giesche", and after WW2, it received its current name. It is worthwhile to see the shaft "Pulaski", at which we can see an impressive pithead building designed by the Zillman brothers.
