One of the attractions of the Historic Park of Pszczyna is the Open-Air Museum - „Croft of the Region of Pszczyna” („Zagroda Wsi Pszczyńskiej”). The museum displays wooden constructions which are exemplary of the timber architecture of the region. Most of them come from the nineteenth century. The open air museum was established in 1975 and in the following years it was gradually being expanded. Currently, there are a dozen objects here. In addition to sightseeing, we can also taste regional dishes in the inn, which is housed in the historic mill. The open air museum is located on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province.
"Piastowska Street is the main promenade in Pszczyna. It is mostly lined with buildings from the nineteenth and twentieth century. However,
the most conspicuous house is a small tenement, roofed with shingles. It was built in the eighteenth century and now houses an extraordinary institution – the Wojciech Korfanty Museum of the Silesian Press. It collects Silesian prints, antique printing machinery and equipment. The museum recreates Wojciech Korfanty’s editorial office. On the first floor, “the Chamber of Telemann” can be found."
After the conquest by Prussia, Silesia was
divided into districts. A number of the royal
officials appeared in towns and cities, which at
the same time meant that some privileges of
the local lords were cancelled. Landrats -
Prussian governors appointed by the king –
took over power in the districts. The present
building of the District Office was erected not
before the 80s of the nineteenth century.
Previously, the District Office occupied
successively two other buildings.
The Stables of the Prince of Pless are one of the many
attractions of the town, which after a complete renovation
has regained luster in the twenty-first century. The complex
of buildings consisting of proper stables, a coach house,
garages and a riding school is located slightly northeast of
the palace. These facilities were built (mostly) the historizing
styles in the second half of the nineteenth century.
Unfortunately, the building of riding arena was "modernized"
in the communist era, when it was adapted to a sports hall.
The church of All Saints is the oldest shrine in
Pszczyna. It was mentioned for the first time
in the first half of the fourteenth century. It
served solely for the residents of Pszczyna.
The residents of the surrounding villages
attended the church of Saint Hedwig. The
current late Baroque edifice of the church
results from the reconstruction carried out in
the eighteenth century. Inside, the most
valuable monument is the miraculous image
of Our Lady of Pszczyna.
