n the second half of the seventeenth century,
the followers of Lutheranism in Cieszyn Silesia
suffered severe persecution by the arch
Catholic Habsburgs. After expelling them by
force from all the churches in the principality,
they had to pray in secret. So-called forest
churches come from that time. These were
the remote places in the mountains, where
Protestants met in secret devotions. One of
them is a huge stone preserved to this day on
top of Równica near Ustroń.
Ustroń is mainly associated with extravagantly
designed houses and sanatoriums, which are
situated on the slopes of the Silesian Beskid,
in Zawodzie and Jaszowiec, districts of the
town. Is also associated with modern and
effective methods of healing and with the
mineral water "Ustronianka". As a result, it is
considered one of the most important Polish
health resorts. Rheumatic and
musculoskeletal diseases, respiratory and
cardiac, as well as neurological disorders are
treated in Ustroń. The resort also attracts a
group of keen enthusiasts, who are looking for
relaxation and active recreation.
The Vistula boulevards in Ustroń are a popular promenade, which serves walkers and fans of of Nordic walking and cross-country skiing. The illuminated promenade is also visited in winter. The Ustroń Cross-Country Skiing School has laid out six kilometers of the marked ski runs for the fans of the free and classic styles. The Curative Park, located in the vicinity of the center of the resort, adjoins the boulevards. In the Park there is the Ustroń Amphitheatre- the venue of many cultural and entertainment events.
"In 2008, after 236 years of continuous operation, the Ustroń Forge was shut down. Health resort qualities prevailed over the industry. Currently, the traditions of Ustroń metallurgy and forging are displayed in the Ustroń Museum, located in the former administration building of the steel plant
""Klemens"". The museum strives to serve as a cultural center, so apart from exhibitions, it publishes books, organizes jubilee celebrations, meetings and concerts, promoting artists from Ustroń.
