Pogrzebień is a village in district of Raciborz, in the commune of Kornowac. This picturesque lies on the hills above the valley of the Oder river. It is a good vantage point of the surrounding area of the post-Cistercian ponds, as well as on the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, which are part of the Carpathian Mountains, and on the ranges of the Opava and Jeseníky mountains belonging to the Sudeten. Apart from the palace of the Baildons (formerly belonging to the Larischs, who were the parents-in-law of Joseph von Eichendorff) it is worthwhile to see the church of Saint Bartholomew. Laura Meozzi, a Salesian nun, who was highly deserved for working with children is buried here.
Pogrzebień is a village in the commune of Kornowac. It was already mentioned in the thirteenth century as one of the oldest villages of the land of Racibórz. Its location on the hills above the valley of the Oder river makes it an interesting vantage point. The pride of the village is a neo-Renaissance mansion. Currently, it houses the Salesian convent with a memory chamber dedicated to Laura Meozzi and the Salesian Youth Oratory, which together with the adjacent sports facilities serves children and young people from the region.
The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Lubomia was built in the second half of the nineteenth century. It was designed by Paul Jankisch, a Bytom architect and master builder and creator of several dozen churches. The neo-Gothic building was constructed of red brick. The interior is also neo-Gothic with a few older monuments from the older church.
In Lubomia, which is the seat of the commune lying 12 km northwest of Wodzisław Śląski, there is one of the monuments of the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province. It is the - Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. The chapel dates probably from the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Itwas dedicated to one of the most popular saints in Central Europe. John of Nepomuk was a fourteenth-century Czech martyr. He is the patron of many Silesian churches and chapels.
Lubomia is a place where you can find a relatively well-preserved ramparts and moats, which are remnants of the stronghold of Golensizi. Golensizi was a Slavic tribe. In the early Middle Ages, they lived at the present Polish-Czech border, in the south of Upper Silesia, occupying the area between the range of Jesioniki in the Sudeten and the Silesian Beskid. The tribe had several strongholds, one of which was located in what is now Lubomia.
