The Manor House in Woszczyce

The building known as the little palace or manor house in Woszczyce is one of the most beautiful buildings of the village. The origins of the manor house are connected with a wooden structure, which was built by the Woszczycki family. The manor house was devastated during the seventeenth-century Thirty Years War, and later after by the communist regime. In the 90s of the last the situation changed for better. Currently, the renovated manor houses a hotel and a restaurant called "Szczepańskis’ Manor."

The Palowice Lake District

The Palowice Lake District is a popular name of the charming corner of Upper Silesia, just north of Żory, in the National Park "Cistercian Landscape Compositions of Rudy Wielkie". Pine forests reflect themselves on the surface of numerous breeding ponds, which were created many years ago in the Jesionka valley, a right tributary of the Ruda. The place is full of protected plants and animals and it is accessible to tourists thanks to many walking, Cycling and skiing trails.

The Wooden Church of the Holy Trinity in Pałowice

Palowice is an old village situated in the district of Rybnik. It was for the first time mentioned in a document of Duke of Racibórz as early as 1308. Centuries ago, an important trade route to Moravia ran through the village. An interesting monument lying on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province is the Church of Holy Trinity. This sanctuary comes from the village of Leszczyny, from where it was brought to Palowicein 1981.

The Tower of the "Waleska" Steel Plant in Pałowice

A few miles north of the center of Żory we can encounter a brick tower of the steel plant “Waleska”. It is located within the protected area of the Landscape Park of the Cistercian Landscape Compositions of Rudy Wielkie. This brick tower was once used to pull manually a significant amount of raw materials up to a considerable height in order to charge the adjacent blast furnace with them. The plant operated here in the first half of the nineteenth century, and its name derives from the daughter of the owner - Franz Winckler.

There are a few monuments including the ruins of the steel mill “Waleska”, a neo-Classicist mansion, an old distillery and remains of the historic park at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The Piaskownia Park in Żory
