The Żywiecki County has excellent conditions for winter sports. Tourists may use numerous ski lifts and superbly prepared pistes. The skiing season starts here in the end of November to last until the end of April. The skiing centres usually have several ski lifts. The pistes are well lit and artificially snowed, the catering facilities and skiing equipment rental facilities and service points are numerous, and skiing instructors guarantee satisfaction of the tourists. Many of the trails and bicycle routes may be used in winter time for cross-country skiing and skitours. The most famous ski resort is ZwardońSki (www.zwardon-ski.pl).
Mount Rachowiec is not a high mountain (954 m), but it is popular among tourists in the range of Wielka Racza, towering over the tourist resort village of Zwardoń. The attractiveness of Rachowiec is caused by a ski center operating on its slopes. It has the longest chairlift in this area and the longest ski run (1,200 m). On the northern slopes of Rachowiec, there is a nature reserve "Butorza".
