The Palace "Pheasantry", also known as "Duke's Pheasantry", is a late-Classicist residence in Pszczyna Poręba. It was built at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The building, designed by Wilhelm Push, was founded by Friedrich Erdmann, Duke of Pszczyna. The name refers specifically to the local breeding of pheasants, which, incidentally, was part of a hunting farm to complement defects in the local fauna, systematically being eradicated by hunters.
Within the castle park in Pless, in its west part, we can encounter a war cemetery named „Pod Trzema Dębami”, which means “Under Three Oaks." As early as August 1919, men from the area of Pless took an insurgency oath on this secluded clearing. In 1945, the Boy Scouts and the insurgents shot down by the Germans after the invasion of Pless in 1939 were buried here, and soon moved to a common grave of the soldiers killed in the Battle of Ćwiklice.
"Ludwikówka" is a historic mansion built in Pszczyna, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. This neoClassicist mansion is sited in the northern part of the former English-style park, which once surrounded the castle. The mansion, lying on a gentle slope, with the adjacent outbuildings, once formed a separate complex. It was restored in 2008-2010, and it is now a private property.
Pszczyna belongs to the most beautiful towns in Silesia. In addition to the spectacular palace and its magnificent market square, there are extensive parks within the town. The castle park is directly adjacent to the palace. It was established as an English-style landscape park in the nineteenth century. Green spaces are dotted with lakes and canals. Old trees provide shade, and rhododendrons intoxicate with their scent. The park is scattered with numerous monuments of landscape architecture.
Castle in Pszczyna, which probably dates back to the eleventh century, is now a Baroque residence, whose shape is the result of several reconstructions made in the following centuries. It is one of the most valuable monuments of this kind in Poland, which is additionally reinforced by the fact that its original furnishings have been preserved to this day. For years, after the war, the castle has been a museum with some interesting collections – including, amongothers, militaria and miniatures.
