Bzie is now district of Jastrzębie Zdrój. It lies in the eastern part of the town. In the past, Bzie was an independent village, already mentioned in 1293. It is divided into three parts: Bzie Zamecki, Bzie Górne and Bzie Dolne. In Bzie Zameckie there is a late Renaissance, fortified manor house, built in the first half of the seventeenth century, as well as the remnants of an old manor park, with centuries-old, monumental oaks. There are a few hiking and biking trails running through Bzie.
The Church of Our Lady Mother of the Church in Jastrzębie, also called the Church on The Hill, was built in the late 70s of the twentieth century. The local parish was founded in 1980. Due to the original, modern architecture, the church is often referred to, with tongue in cheek, as a silo. It is one of the places related to the peaceful struggle, taken by the Polish society, after the memorable Solidarity uprising in 1980.
In front of the Coal Mine "Borynia-Zofiówka" in Jastrzębie Zdrój, we can see a monument, which commemorates the Jastrzębie Agreement of 3 September 1980. The agreement was part of so-called August Agreements concluded between the communist authorities and the citizens. The monument was erected spontaneously and unveiled on the first anniversary of the Agreement. It was designed by Joachim Paruzel, a local miner. A short thereafter, during the martial law, the communists brutally suppressed the strike in the mine.
The Gallery of the History of Jastrzębie Zdrój is the best place to learn about the history of this young city. The Gallery was set up in 2002, but since 2010, it has been housed in the former Baths II, a more appropriate place. Here, you can see permanent and temporary exhibitions. The exhibitions include the local history of coal mining and the presentation of the interior of a traditional Silesian kitchen.
The church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Pielgrzymowice was built in the second half of the seventeenth century. It is made of wood, covered with shingles. The one-nave church with a tower is topped with a tent roof. The interior is mostly in the Baroque style. We can find here images and figures from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The polychromy on the ceiling and the stained glass windows were designed by Paweł Steller, a known Silesian artist.
