    Katowice
    The Reserve "Ochojec" lies within the boundaries of Katowice, in the south of the city, in the district Piotrowice-Ochojec. It is part of the Murckowski Forest - a large forest complex, whose parts have been preserved in a state close to natural. The Reserve "Ochojec" belongs to floral reserves. Above all, it protects the most abundant (apart from European mountains) the community of clasping twistedstalk. We can find numerous other protected species of plants and animals in this reserve.

    Żabie Doły (roughly translated as "Frog Ditches") is a nature and landscape protected area in Silesia, located entirely within the limits of the cities of Bytom, Chorzów and Piekary Ślaskie. The local landscape resembles that of Masuria, a lake district in north-eastern Poland. Żabie Doły is a protected area of endangered species, including little bittern, Eurasian bittern and mute swan. Interestingly, it owes its appearance to many centuries of human activity, in particular underground mining and metal smelting.

    The Reserve "Las Murckowski" (“Murckowski Forest”) lies in Murcki, a district in the south of Katowice. The reserve consists of two parts separated by the motorway, which links Katowice and Bielsko-Biała. The reserve protects a forest community similar to the natural woodland, which once formed the Silesian Forest. It is the main habitat of lowland beechwood with monumental specimens of beech trees and oaks, which are up to 150 year old.

    "Segiet" is a partially protected nature reserve, which covers about 25 hectares. It is located mainly in Bytom and - in part - in Tarnowskie Góry. The reserve protects a beech forest covering old mine workings on Silver Mountain, one of the highest hills of Tarnogórski Garb -Tarnowskie Góry Anticline. The reserve, adjacent to the old quarries, is associated with the Tarnowskie Góry - Bytom underground spaces. The most interesting places are located along the Las Segiecki (Segiet Forest) Education Trail.

    "Babczyna Dolina" is a wooded nature reserve, located in the communes of Suszec and Kobiór. It covers an area of over 76 hectares. It is a relatively young protected area. It was created in 2002 pursuant to the regulation of the Silesian voivode. The purpose of the reserve is to protect a moist reed grass area with rare species of bryophytes. In addition, it is also a refuge for several species of reptiles.

    The Nature Reserve "Żubrowisko" in Jankowice, near Pszczyna, was created in 1996. It is a partial reserve, which covers an area of 744.61 hectares. It aims at protecting the population of the European bison, our largest land mammal and the symbol of our characteristic fauna. In the reserve, there is a herd of about 40 animals. The area is fenced and mainly due to the health reasons, it is not open to the public.

    The Bog ‘Bruch” near Pyrzowice is one of many protected areas of the Natura 2000 network in the Silesian voivodeship. It is located in the south-east part of the Lubliniec Forests. The protected area is predominantly covered with a coniferous forest, but in terms of wildlife, the most precious are peat bogs with valuable protected plants, including numerous common sundews.
