Juszczyna
Juszczyna is a beautifully situated village near Żywiec, in the commune of Radziechowy-Wieprz. It lies at the northern foot of the lofty massif of Romanki. The first mention of the village comes from the seventeenth century. Later, it was also known for the highwaymen marauding in the vicinity. The local Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the 20s of the twentieth century.
Żywiec
The Żywiec Archducal Brewery is one of the most famous and successful producers of beer in Poland. The history of the plant began in the mid-nineteenth century, when the decision was taken by Archduke Albrecht Friedrich Habsburg, the then owner of Żywiec to build a brewery. Many of the original brewery buildings have been preserved to this day. They were designed by Karol Pietschka. The Żywiec Brewery Museum astounds with modern solutions, where we will learn the history of the plant and the process of beer production.
Przyłęków
Przyłęków is a village in the district of Żywiec, in the commune of Świnna. In 1886, the village became famous for Marian apparitions. On the second of July, during the religious celebration of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Wojciech Stefko a local shepherd, prayed for the health of his only blind daughter, Mary. When a pious man got tired and he fell asleep. Mother of God appeared to him in a dream, recommending the construction of the chapel. It did not come about quickly, however.
Cięcina
The village of Cięcina, which lies at the bottom of the Silesian and Żywiec Beskids, boasts having a very interesting sacral monument. It is a sixteenth-century Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. It is one of the monuments on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province and the local Papal Trail. The one-nave church with a tower has been rebuilt several times. It is one of the most precious monuments of the southern part of the Silesian voivodeship.
Żywiec
The Żywiec railway station was built in 1878. Within a few years, the city became an important hub along the Carpathian Transversal Railway, connecting Čadca (now Slovakia) with Stanisławów and Husiatyń (now Ukraine). The line, with a length of 800 km, ran through Zwardoń, Żywiec, and then through Sucha Beskidzka, Nowy Sącz, Krosno, Sambor, Drohobycz, and Stryj. It was once of great economic importance. Currently, trains run along a part of the line.
