Skoczów
The great fifteenth-century historian, Jan Dlugosz, mentions Skoczów as the first town on the Upper Vistula. As you can see already it must have already been a pretty big town. Unfortunately, due to the devastating fires and floods in the following centuries, there are no traces of those times. However, a medieval town layout, with a large, centrally located market, dominated by the town hall, and a grid street plan has survived to this day
Skoczów
Gustaw Morcinek was a teacher and a writer. He wrote beautifully about Silesia. Already in the interwar period, he became closely associated with Skoczów. He even built a house here. After years, Skoczów returned the favor, and created the Biographical Museum. Currently, the Gustaw Morcinek Museum is a branch of the Museum of Cieszyn Silesia in Cieszyn. It is housed in a beautiful eighteenth-century tenement house. It collects memorabilia related to his life and work. In addition, there are exhibitions on the history of Skoczów and Cieszyn Silesia.
Skoczów
Jan Sarkander was a Polish priest and martyr, who was the victim of the cruel Thirty Years War. In 1620, he died as a result of torture inflicted on him by the Protestants in Olomouc. In 1995, Pope John Paul II canonized him. In Skoczów, near Cieszyn, in the house where he was born there is the Museum dedicated to Jan Sarkander, which presents his life and the birthplace of the saint - decorated Sarkander John Parish Museum, presenting his life and posthumous worship.
Skoczów
The parish of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles is the oldest in Skoczów. For centuries, it was witnessing difficult relations between Catholics and Protestants. The church was built in the style of the late Baroque, in 1762. Its interior is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of Baroque in Cieszyn Silesia. In the shrine, the Skoczów Saint, Jan Sarkander, is especially venerated.
Skoczów
The tall tower of the Lutheran church of the Holy Trinity dominates the landscape of Skoczów. The church at the foot of Górka Wilamowicka was built with great effort of the faithful erected in between 1863 and 1865., For the Czech artillery In 1919and the Soviet gunners in 1945 the church was an easy target. Rebuilt after the war, it testifies to a nearly fivehundred-year-long, continuous presence of the Evangelicals in Skoczów. On the twenty second of May 1995, Pope John Paul II prayed in the church.
