Śląski Ogród Zoologiczny w Chorzowie

Ogród Zoologiczny zlokalizowany jest w Chorzowie na terenie Parku Śląskiego przy Promenadzie gen. Jerzego Ziętka. Pierwszy ogród zoologiczny powstał na Górnym Śląsku w 1898 roku w Bytomiu, a kolejny w Katowicach, w 1946. Podczas budowy Wojewódzkiego Parku Kultury i Wypoczynku podjęto decyzję o utworzeniu jednego, dużego obiektu w Chorzowie. Pierwsze zwierzęta sprowadzono w 1954 roku do prowizorycznego ZOO przy restauracji „Łania”, a oficjalne otwarcie nastąpiło w 1958 roku. Przez lata Ogród stale się rozbudowywał. W 1975 roku na terenie ZOO powstała, pierwsza wówczas w Polsce, Skalna Kotlina Dinozaurów. Zrekonstruowano tu 16 naturalnej wielkości dinozaurów, których szczątki odkryto w latach 1963-71 na Pustyni Gobi. Śląski Ogród Zoologiczny jest jednym z młodszych w Polsce, a jednocześnie jednym z większych pod względem powierzchni i liczby zwierząt. Zajmuje obszar prawie 48 ha, a żyje w nim ponad 300 gatunków świata fauny. Najliczniejszą grupę stanowią ryby (ponad 1200 osobników) i ptaki (ponad 600) - z ciekawszych należy wymienić: puchacze, żurawie, strusie afrykańskie, nandu, flamingi, pelikany. Są też gady, płazy i bezkręgowce. Wśród 76 gatunków ssaków znajdują się m.in. hipopotamy, słonie afrykańskie, nosorożce białe, niedźwiedzie, bizony, tygrysy syberyjskie, różne gatunki antylop, gerezy abisyńskie, mandryle, lemury. ZOO może się pochwalić jedną z większych kolekcji zwierząt afrykańskich. Ogród obsadzony jest cennymi gatunkami drzew i krzewów; dzięki nowoczesnym wybiegom i pawilonom umożliwia oglądanie egzotycznych zwierząt nawet w sezonie zimowym. Ścieżka dydaktyczna z tablicami informacyjnymi zapoznaje z zagadnieniami z zakresu biologii, ekologii i zachowania poszczególnych gatunków. Bezpośredni kontakt z łagodnymi zwierzętami umożliwia najmłodszym minizoo. Ciekawostką architektoniczną jest główna, zabytkowa brama wejściowa z XIX wieku, która została przywieziona ze Świerklańca. To jedna z niewielu pozostałości po zniszczonym pałacu Donnersmarcków.

The Silesian Stadium in Chorzów is one of the "legends" of Polish football. The idea of building the stadium appeared in the interwar period, but it was not until the 50s of the last century, when it was erected. Once it was opened in 1956, it was the largest facility of its kind in the country. It could accommodate more than 100,000 spectators. A lot of football matches and speedway competitions held on the stadium have gone down in history. Currently, the stadium is being under reconstruction.

The club offers both riding lessons and the development of sporting ambitions. Every year the "Trial" organizes the General Jerzy Ziętek Regional Competition of Horse Jumping, as well as the Competition for the Cup of the Silesian Voivode.
