The Elizabeth Evangelical Church was the first church built in Huta Królewska, which was later renamed Chorzów. It was for the followers of Lutheranism, among them, workers and technical staff, who came to the region at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The building was erected between 1840 and 1844. The Elizabeth Church was named in honor of the wife of the King of Prussia. Over the years, the church in Chorzów was attended by the faithful from other towns and cities of Upper Silesia, even from Katowice.
