The present church of Saint Anne in
Tarnowskie Góry Anna is the second shrine
founded in this mining town. It was built in
the early seventeenth century as an
Evangelical cemetery chapel, outside the city
walls, near the Gliwice Gate. Soon, it passed
into the hands of Catholics. It was extended in
the mid-nineteenth century. Inside, there is an
eighteenth-century painting of Saint Anne. In
1981, an independent parish was established
at the church.
One of the monuments of Tarnowskie Góry is
the Miners’ Belfry, which for many years,
until the middle of the twentieth century,
stood by the mine “ Blachówka” in
Bobrowniki Śląskie. It served the mine
workers in the nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, although its history (according to
tradition) dates back to the sixteenth century.
In 1955, the belfry was moved to Plac
Gwarków (Miners’ Square) in Tarnowskie Góry
and set on the stone foundation, on the site

The church of Saints Peter and Paul in Tarnowskie Góry was passed to the Catholics in 1630. Previously, since its construction (around 1530), it was used by Protestants. In the nineteenth century, the building was rebuilt in the neo-Romanesque style. Among other architectural elements, a tower has remained from the original building. From the beginning of the eighteenth century, Saint Barbara, patron of the miners, has especially been venerated in the church. Inside the church, we will find Renaissance, Baroque and later monuments.
The Church of Saint Martin, Bishop and
Confessor in Stare Tarnowice is the oldest
church in the town and the entire district of
Tarnowskie Góry. It was built in the Gothic
style as early as the fourteenth century. At
the beginning of the eighteenth century, the
church was rebuilt in the Baroque style. At
the end of the nineteenth century, a new
neo-Romanesque parish church was erected
in its vicinity. The old church is characterized
by wooden roofs covered with shingle and a
historic décor of its interior.
An old, eighteenth-century manor house is
undoubtedly a place worth seeing in
Tarnowskie Góry. Today, it houses a restaurant
and the local seat of the Polish Tourist and
Sightseeing Society. The charming interior of
the restaurant, together with a collection of
old items, is a venue for exhibitions and
concerts. The building is called “ manor
house of Goethe”. The German poet stayed
here for two days in 1790, when he came to
Tarnowskie Góry to see the steam engine and
explore the local mines.
