The Silesian Aero Club of Silesia prides itself on over eighty-year-old traditions. It was established in the late 20s and 30s of the last century. Its alumni include: Edward Makula - a gliding world champion, Waldemar Ozga - an outstanding balloon pilot, Edward Ciapała - a world vice-champion in model aircraft, and many other great pilots. The Aero Club operates the airfield of Katowice Muchowiec, which was built in the 20s of the last century.

The District Court Building located at Francuska Street in Katowice is a laureate of the competition of the Best Public Space of the Silesian Voivodeship for the year 2010.The building is modern and functional at the same time. The serious and monumental aesthetic corresponds to its purposes. This compact building has the shape of a shape of an elongated cuboid, but inside there are courtyards with greenery. The cemetery located at present Sienkiewicza Street in Katowice was set up for the newly established Roman Catholic parish of Saints Peter and Paul at the beginning of the last century. The distinctive, modern building of the Silesian Library in Katowice is located on the Rada Europy Square (The Council of Europe Square). It was built in the late twentieth century. The building was designed by Marek Gierlotki, Stanislaw Jarecki and Jurand Kwaśniewicz. The library dates back to the early 20s of the twentieth century, when the institution named the Silesian Library was created. Currently, the Silesian Library has of more than 2 million volumes in its collection.

But the most important necropolis of Katowice, the counterpart of Warsaw’s Powązki and Cracow’s Rakowice, is the cemetery of the parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary located at Francuska Street. The Avenue of Honor can be found here, including the graves of Wojciech Korfanty, Józef Rymer and General Józef Ziętek.
