The Bishop’s Inn in Racibórz

The Bishop’s Inn in Racibórz is a historic building. It stands in the western part of the city, in the district of Stara Wieś. It was built in the 1780s to serve those travelling along the important trade route leading from Racibórz to Opole and further to Wrocław. In the nineteenth century, the inn was turned into a residential building. Currently, it is being adapted to a hotel. The Bishop’s Inn has two floors. The building is covered with the so-called Polish a gable roof.

"Strzecha" is a cultural center at Londzina Street in Racibórz. It is an institution of outstanding merit for the city community. It was registered in 1909 and operated as the Polish House, which was the seat of a number of associations. Their activities continued in the interwar period. Many of the Polish activists of the House were persecuted by the Nazis. The building itself dates from 1880.

The church of Holy Spirit of Racibórz is a fourteenth-century building. For ages, its history was associated with the nearby Dominican monastery. The convent in the monastery, which daughter of the local dukes entered, was one of the main religious and cultural centers in the area. Nowadays, inside the building, which after the dissolution of the monasteries in Prussia in 1810 went through various vicissitudes, there is a museum with some interesting exhibitions, including an archaeological one.

As befits the distinguished institution, it is housed in an old historic townhouse at 21 Chopina Street. The house was rebuilt in the Classicist style in the first half of the 19th century. In 1846, piano virtuoso Franz Liszt gave a performance in its elegant concert hall. In the interwar period, the hotel “German House” operated in it.

Racibórz Castle Brewery prides itself on the oldest tradition of beer brewing in the region. According to written sources, it is known that in this area, beer brewing dates back to at least as early as the thirteenth century. The first mention of the ducal brewery comes from the sixteenth century.

For this reason, there are many monuments, which should be of interest to fans of militaria. The most famous, of course, is the Racibórz Castle, but it is worthwhile to visit the hussar barracks. Here, we will see brick buildings with a command headquarters and a manege adorned with unique murals.

The castle of Racibórz is an old stronghold, whose origins are not fully known. The building preserved to this day results from many reconstructions carried out in the following centuries, and therefore, it combines different architectural styles. One of the most valuable objects is the castle chapel of Saint Thomas Becket of Canterbury, known as the pearl of the Silesian Gothic. The castle of Racibórz I s now open to the public. Numerous cultural events are held here.
